Five Types of Enquiry |
||
Detail |
This session will explore the scientific enquiry skills alongside the five types of enquiry, providing teachers with practical activities to take back to the classroom. We'll discuss exactly what the skills are that we want children to develop as scientists and how this can be facilitated simply but effectively. There are five types of scientific enquiry, some of which are often forgotten and are well suited to those topics which appear difficult to teach enquiry through, such as space. This session will include going into classrooms to see teachers deliver sessions which allow children to develop scientific skills through the range of enquiry discussed. |

Delivering Enquiry |
||
Detail |
Have you spent many a night trawling through Pinterest, trying to find some exciting science to deliver to your class? This session looks at why enquiry is so important, how to make it practical and aims to send teachers away with a bank of engaging, purposeful enquiry activities to use in the classroom. They might be activities that link to specific scientific knowledge outlined in the National Curriculum or they might just be exciting and an opportunity to focus on the scientific skills discussed in the first session. We'll discuss how one activity can be adapted for all year groups and will include go into classrooms to see teachers deliver practical activities which teachers can use in their own setting. |

Planning and Teaching Science |
||
Detail |
Schools all have different approaches to teaching Science. Some teach it as a discrete lesson each week and others teach it through topics, meaning that delivery is less regular. In this session, we'll evaluate the pros and cons of these two approaches, assessing what would work best in teacher's individual settings. This session doesn't aim to direct teachers to one approach or the other but will address that whatever approach is best for an individual school, should be implemented school-wide allowing for consistency and assurance of curriculum delivery. |
